We all want to feel strong, capable, and dynamic, and to do the things we want to do. Strength, mobility, balance, and confidence in our bodies are proven to help us age successfully.  Exercise choices need to evolve to support each client’s needs.

These workshops are for:

  • Pilates & movement instructors who work one-on-one with clients over the age of 50
  • 1 year teaching experience recommended

During these workshops, you will learn:

  • Key visual, vestibular, proprioceptive, and orthopedic issues that lead to balance disorders and falls
  • How to adapt Pilates exercises and programming to address the needs of seniors of all physical capacities
  • How to use Pilates to improve capacity in daily life, and pursue activities enjoyed by those in every stage of aging

Deborah Jones

PT, DPT, GCS, CEEAA, ATP

Deborah Jones has been a physical therapist with Providence for over 25 years. Starting her career in So California at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center. She has worked in acute, home health, long-term care and currently works the Outpatient staff at Bridgeport Providence Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine since 2007. She obtained her Clinical Doctorate for physical therapy in 2016. She is a board-certified geriatric clinical specialist, pelvic health specialist, assistive technology professional and a Franklin Method instructor. She has extended education in concussion and vestibular rehabilitation. She is a neuroscience pain educator for Providence.

Melanie Byford-Young

Co-Owner, Pacific Northwest Pilates, Master Instructor Trainer of Rehabilitation, STOTT PILATES®

Melanie is a leader in the global community of Pilates, physical therapy, and fitness training.  She is co-owner of Pacific Northwest Pilates and Melanie Byford-Young Education, and a Master Instructor Trainer of Rehabilitation for STOTT PILATES™.  She co-created the six-part Rehabilitation Course series for licensed healthcare professionals which is taught internationally.  She has also created her own library of over 25 courses, master classes, and case-study based learning workshops. Her expertise in therapeutic orthopedic strategies attracts a world wide audience and has sent her abroad to work throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia.

Home-based in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, Melanie splits her time between working with complex clients, consulting, teaching, and creating content. She loves teaching and mentoring students and therapists, and is a highly-sought after resource for professionals wishing to acquire critical reasoning skills to assess physical movement.
